I was born in Pembina County. This is the northeastern most county in North Dakota with Minnesota on the eastern border and Canada on the northern border.
My father and his family farmed, owned a heavy construction company, and raised beef cattle. My family, along with my grandparents, my uncles, and their families lived on this same farm that was homestead by our Icelandic great-grandparents and we lived just down the road from the other set of our Icelandic great-grandparents. All of my father’s ancestors emigrated from Iceland in 1884-1888.
My mother’s father was Scottish and his family had lived in Prince Edward Island, Canada for several generations. My mother’s mother was Norwegian and her grandparents and her father immigrated in 1882 from Norway. I was lucky to live just 30 minutes away from my grandparents and to have my Norwegian great-grandmother and one set of my Icelandic great-grandparents through my teenage years.
I continue to spend a lot of time in Pembina County visiting with friends and relatives. My children, husband, and I spend a lot of time at our Cavalier County farm, which is very near the homesteads of all of my ancestors. Our farm is located just on the border of Pembina and Cavalier Counties.
I have published two family history books. These two hard-backed books are professionally published and I have a few left. They are $40 each.
The first book, of 300 pages, is called, “Roots to Trees - Hungary and France.” It includes the ancestors and descendants of my mother-in-law. The second book, of 220 pages called, “Roots to Trees - Scotland and Norway,” includes the ancestors and descendants of my mom. See the charts below for surnames associated with each book.
